From an industrial designer perspective, Spark achieve the perfect balance between performance and portability. The compact and efficient body design makes it easier for both professionals and enthusiasts hold it in hands.

Spark is finished with 6063 anodized aluminum and comes with two colors: silver and black. The whole body was bead blasted to create a fine and smooth surface, while the details are laser etched for eternity usage.

Spark is designed for high-speed cinematic filming, which means it requires a non-compromising cooling system. The first-ever blow through structure makes that happened. The giant grills on both left and right allows air travel through, taking the excess heat away from the aluminum body.

Spark is the first high-speed camera that uses a S35 BSI sensor with global shutter to greatly reduce the image distortion, commonly known as the jelly effect. Thanks to the backlight illumination sensor, Spark only requires 25% of lighting in a traditional slo-mo scene.

With the integrated V-Mount at the back, Spark reduces cable clutters with direct power connection. It shows significant advantages on portability when shooting on drones and robotic arms.

Spark comes with a removable SSD card, allowing way longer filming time and faster writing speed. Easy data transfer and hot swapping ability are also non-negligible benefits.

Three types of lens mount are available to purchase: E Mount, EF Mount, and PL Mount.

The knurled roller is a key helper when checking the footage, controlling the videos precisely to the designated frame.

With the locking slider on the curving edge, all the physical buttons can be disabled, preventing any unexpected operation during precious moments.

Spark has variety of connectors at the back, transferring data and footage instantly.

Process

The story started in January 2023. With a spark of idea to design a high speed camera, a group of filmmakers, engineers, and designers set the goal to capture the brilliant moments around us.

Started with visiting sites and studios, we interviewed several directors to gather key needs and features on this camera. Sketched a bunch of ideas, exploring a variety of composition, layout, and form factor.

With steps of exploration, we are able to locate and converge best ideas, having a general stack up on how this product goes.

After getting our hands on the first EVT prototype, we filmed couple samples and gained deeply on which parts can be designed and improved.

Rounds and rounds of endless printing, Spark transformed and evolved with better user experience.

Working with various vendors is also our daily job. Countless parts were machined and finished to the extreme that meet our standards.

Next were DVTs with vendors to improve details so that Spark can go into production smoothly.

PIXBOOM Spark was officially launched on September 18, 2025

It reached more than $3,500,000 on Kickstarter in one month.
